Laggard Sandhills and other things

This pair seems reluctant to join the rest of the gang heading South. Here they are braving the frost and fog in the early AM.

Sunup

in a panic. thinks buddy has lost head

Could this be a Rusty Blackbird in winter colours?

No guess here. White Crowned Sparrow.

Oh! say can you see

By the dawn's early light?
The difficulty in getting sufficient detail in photos under poor lighting. Cloudy before sun-up.

More nest robbing. By my count there have been 3 Snapping Turtle nests hit and one Painted Turtle's. With many more holes dug by the culprit in searching for others sites. All on the Sheriff Creek dam.

Black Bear Bathing

In a seasonal pond in the old sand pit off Dennison Road

On the Sheriff Creek dam a Snapping Turtle's nest is robbed
All eggs opened and contents gone. See the scattered shells.Seems odd thet there were still unhatched eggs this late in the season
This maybe a 3rd fox added to yesterday's pair. Note the very pronounced pale band at base of tail. Much lighter than either of yesterday's two. Same location but only the one fox.

3 Amigos, synchronized swimming

Handsome Devil. And he knows it.

Elk and other things from Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday.

No Bulls in evidence (yet)

Feeling sorry for our crippled, one eyed Vixen I took a few scraps of meat out. She was nowhere to be seen today but here were 2 young ones I had never seen before.
Larger one, presumably a male was not prepared to  share

Female waiting patiently

Then approached cautiously from ther rear

Only to get a whupping

scooted down the road but made a tight "U" turn

Crept back and finally got to eat when the male had enough.

When Rio Algom hired  Trappers to reduce the beaver population the were far too successful. The whole colony was decimated. Last beaver I saw was in late July.
However it would appear there is a new man-in-town. Came to repopulate Sheriff Creek Cattail marsh.
