Waterfowl still persisit in arriving far too early.

Little open water but these hardy creatures will take any size.
This is where I found three Goldeneyes and a pair of female Mallards over two days

number three couldn't take it anymore

Mallards

Then there was this Common Merganser basking on the (ice) beach

Waiting for the Thaw

This flock of Common Goldeneyes arrived way too soon,
Found no open water on Lake Huron's North Channel and had to settle for this relatively small clear area.

And then there was other stuff to see

This, That and The other

More new Spring arrivals.
First another Merganser. This time a Red Breasted

Then, a startling sight.
A female Mallard. Certainly would never expect to see a "Dabbler" at the base of a waterfall in winter.

More Feathered Friends

And then another visit to the Elk Herd.

They appeared for only about 5 minutes during which time they romped about the field then disappeared down the other side of hill

Harbingers of Spring?

Or advocates of Global Warming?

at any rate this pair of Common Mergansers arrived Jan 31st to an icy Serpent River with few open water areas

After preening together she decides to abandon him

Does this mean he's happy to be single again?
